Signet ring cell mixed histology may show more aggressive behavior than other histologies in early gastric cancer
- Journal of surgical oncology
- Published over 8 years ago
- Discuss
Signet ring cell carcinoma (SRC) of the stomach is known to have different microscopic and biologic characteristics compared to non-SRC. The pathologic report has documented partly SRC component with main histologies. However, the clinical significance of SRC mixture has not been reported. Aim was to investigate clinicopathologic features of mixed-SRC histology in early gastric cancer (EGC).

Radiologic follow-up of untreated enchondroma and atypical cartilaginous tumors in the long bones
- Journal of surgical oncology
- Published over 4 years ago
- Discuss
Both enchondroma and atypical cartilaginous tumors (ACT) are not considered malignant, so inactive and asymptomatic tumors might not need surgery. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that has been done to evaluate the natural course of conservative-treated enchondroma and ACT in the long bones.

High expression of karyopherin-α2 and stathmin 1 is associated with proliferation potency and transformation in the bile duct and gall bladder epithelia in the cases of pancreaticobiliary maljunction
- Journal of surgical oncology
- Published over 4 years ago
- Discuss
Pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM) may be associated with an increased frequency of gall bladder cancer with no bile duct dilation. Karyopherin-α2 (KPNA2) and stathmin 1 (STMN1) were reported to play important roles in carcinogenesis and cancer progression.

What made hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy an effective curative treatment for peritoneal surface malignancy: A 25-year experience with 1,125 procedures
- Journal of surgical oncology
- Published almost 5 years ago
- Discuss
To review our 25-year experience with hyperthermic intra-peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).

Surgical margin does not influence recurrence rate in pT1 clear cell renal cell carcinoma after partial nephrectomy: A multicenter study
- Journal of surgical oncology
- Published almost 5 years ago
- Discuss
To assess the risk factors of positive surgical margins (PSM) and the influence of margin status on recurrence in pT1 clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC) following partial nephrectomy (PN).

The importance of margins in head and neck cancer
- Journal of surgical oncology
- Published almost 5 years ago
- Discuss
An estimated 200,000 deaths each year worldwide are due to cancer of the head and neck, mostly mucosal squamous cell carcinoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer. The status of surgical margins is important for prognosis and need for adjuvant therapy. We will discuss how margin status impacts outcomes and therapy, and the conundrum of determining margin status. J. Surg. Oncol. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Oncologic effects of preoperative biliary drainage in resectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma: Percutaneous biliary drainage has no adverse effects on survival
- Journal of surgical oncology
- Published about 3 years ago
- Discuss
The objective of the current study was to define long-term survival of patients with resectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HCCA) after preoperative percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) versus endoscopic biliary drainage (EBD).

Long-term outcomes after hand-sewn versus circular-stapled (25 and 29 mm) anastomotic technique after esophagogastrectomy for esophageal cancer
- Journal of surgical oncology
- Published over 3 years ago
- Discuss
Anastomotic stricture following esophagogastrectomy (EG) can lead to significant dysphagia, necessitating interventions such as endoscopic dilatation. These post-operative complications gain importance with the increased survival rate of patients after EG. This study aimed to assess the outcomes of both circular-stapled (CS: 25 and 29 mm) and hand-sewn (HS) anastomoses after EG.

Lymph node station ratio: Revised nodal category for resected esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients
- Journal of surgical oncology
- Published over 3 years ago
- Discuss
The objective of this study was to evaluate a revised nodal category based on the value of the lymph node (LN) station ratio (SR, metastatic LN stations/examined LN stations) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients.

Using the 21-gene assay from core needle biopsies to choose neoadjuvant therapy for breast cancer: A multicenter trial
- Journal of surgical oncology
- Published almost 4 years ago
- Discuss
We hypothesized that the Oncotype Dx(®) 21-gene Recurrence Score (RS) could guide neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NST) to facilitate breast conserving surgery (BCS) for hormone receptor positive (HR+) breast cancers.
