Both enchondroma and atypical cartilaginous tumors (ACT) are not considered malignant, so inactive and asymptomatic tumors might not need surgery. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that has been done to evaluate the natural course of conservative-treated enchondroma and ACT in the long bones.
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) incorporates treatments used by cancer survivors in an attempt to improve their quality of life. Although population studies have identified factors associated with its use, to the best of the authors knowledge, assessment of why patients use CAM or the barriers against its use have not been examined to date.
As the use of fillers becomes increasingly more common and the skill level of those injecting is so varied, adverse events can be expected to increase as well. Avoiding complications is always the best measure, and with appropriate training and injection techniques, many complications can be avoided. However, adverse events can occur in the best of hands, and early detection and treatment may eliminate or minimize sequelae. This article is an effort to help in that endeavor.

Arthroscopic bone marrow stimulation (BMS) has been considered the primary surgical treatment for osteochondral defects (OCDs) of the talus. However, fixation has been considered as a good alternative. Recently, a new arthroscopic fixation technique was described: the lift, drill, fill and fix procedure (LDFF). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiological results between arthroscopic LDFF and arthroscopic BMS in primary fixable talar OCDs at 1-year follow-up.
Lightweight dual-functional materials with high EMI shielding performance and thermal conductivity are of great importance in modern cutting-edge applications, such as mobile electronics, automotive, aerospace, and military. Unfortunately, a clear material solution has not emerged yet. Herein, we demonstrate a simple and effective way to fabricate lightweight metal-based polymer composites with dual-functional ability of excellent EMI shielding effectiveness and thermal conductivity using expandable polymer bead-templated Cu hollow beads. The low-density Cu hollow beads (ρ ∼ 0.44 g cm(-3)) were fabricated through electroless plating of Cu on the expanded polymer beads with ultralow density (ρ ∼ 0.02 g cm(-3)). The resulting composites that formed a continuous 3D Cu network with a very small Cu content (∼9.8 vol%) exhibited excellent EMI shielding (110.7 dB at 7 GHz) and thermal conductivity (7.0 W m(-1) K(-1)) with isotropic features. Moreover, the densities of the composites are tunable from 1.28 to 0.59 g cm(-3) in accordance with the purpose of their applications. To the best of our knowledge, the resulting composites are the best lightweight dual-functional materials with exceptionally high EMI SE and thermal conductivity performance among synthetic polymer composites.
In the current work, the microviscosity, encapsulation, and permeability of 2-ketooctanoic acid (KOCOOH) vesicle membranes were investigated by steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence techniques, using 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH), riboflavin, and calcein as fluorescence probes. Our results show that the microviscosity of KOCOOH membranes is similar to that of common bilayer aggregates, the KOCOOH vesicles have the ability to encapsulate hydrophilic guests, and the KOCOOH membranes are permeable to ions. The permeation of OH(-) across KOCOOH membranes can be well described using a first-order kinetic model. The KOCOOH vesicles may be a good alternative protocell model that possesses some functional properties necessary for early cell membranes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the characteristics of vesicle membranes of single-tailed keto-acid amphiphiles.

Chondroid lipoma is a rare soft tissue neoplasm. We report case of chondroid lipoma associated with osteoclast-like multinucleated giant cells. To the best of our knowledge, the presence of these giant cells has not been previously described in the English literature. The recognition of these cells is important and their occurrence in this rare neoplasm should not mislead the pathologist to misdiagnose this entity.
Neurofibromatosis type 1 is a hereditary disease that can lead to pseudoarthrosis of various long bones. Rarely, pseudoarthrosis affects the forearm, and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of pseudarthrosis of the distal radius treated by this unique method.
